Solids and Stripes

Solids and Stripes

Medium:Graphite on Paper

Size(cm):15.4×10.6

Eight-ball, sometimes called stripes and solids, or pocket billiards, is the most common game of pool played today. The object balls include seven solid-colored balls numbered 1 through 7, seven striped balls numbered 9 through 15, and the black 8 ball. In this sketch, I chose to show the balls, not in their colors, but instead, in their values. While the initial challenge involves an emphasis on the element of space, there is also the element of value to content with. The values of the colored balls had subtle but noticeable differences to contend with, making for a simple drawing that was anything but ordinary.
