Custom Rodder was an automotive magazine that started in the 1950's for hot rodders seeking ideas on how to customize their rides like most youngsters of the era. It was an on-and-off publication that finally ended in 2007. At around the same time the magazine came out, Formula 1 was formed as a world championship competition back in 1950, with the first-ever race held at the Silverstone Circuit – a former Royal Air Force station – in the United Kingdom on May 13 of that year. I took it upon myself to create a work that reflected on both the past and present of racing using the original pages from CR magazine and a model F1 car. The method I chose was collage since I could use the older automotive parts showcased in the magazine in conjunction with a current F1 race car. The only area I did not collage was the driver since the focus is on the race car and it's evolution over time. The collaged version of the F1 car sits on a pedestal which rotates, indicative of the Winner's Circle, the podium ceremony where the top three drivers stand after a race, celebrating their achievements.
