Read My Lips

Read My Lips

Medium:Acrylic on Canvas

Size(cm):120×150×0

From a distance, the viewer sees a set of lips biting down on a bullet. Upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that typeset has been used to create the entire image. The arrangement of fonts involved creating variations of the word "peace" in over 50 languages. While the idiom Read My Lips is used to tell someone to pay close attention to what one is saying, it is, befittingly, also the title of this work. Composed in typographical fashion, the sheer scale of the work makes the use of typography possible as the word "peace" is painted inside dozens of small crevices. The work took a considerable amount of time and patience to compose, but I feel that's it's worth it given the current global climate. My hope is that the creation of this work will afford viewers a chance to reflect on their choices in terms of what kind of future they want, and that by embracing unity over division... peace over war... our collective consciousness will embrace humanity and choose a future for the better.
