No Peace Without Justice

Medium:Markers and Colored Pencil on Paper

Martin Luther King once said, that "peace is not just the absence of violence. It is thepresence of justice." As utopian as it may sound, if humanity is ever going to put anend to wars, terrorism and violence, then justice can not play politics. This workunderscores that sentiment. Composed in pens, markers and colored pencil, NoPeace Without Justice depicts a large pile of weapons and bullets, all of whichserveas the foundation upon which the scales of justice are built on. The scales aresupported by a lever beam which is affixed to a sword. The relationship is suchthat justice and violence are inexplicably linked together. If there is to truly be peace, oneelement can not exist without the other. Otherwise, if we have a justice systemthat plays politics, it's hypocritical at best and selective empathy at worst.
